Jeep® Altitude Editions "The Nod" (OFFICIAL COMMERCIAL)

The 2013 Jeep cherokee SRT8. Power Refined.

The 2013 Jeep cherokee SRT8. Power Refined.
Let’s begin today’s topic by saying something that is normally never uttered in the off-road community. Jeep has made a Cherokee that is strictly for “On road use” only, and has kicked ass while doing it.    This installment will be about the newly re-shaped, the crispy and clean, 2013 Jeep Cherokee SRT8.
Before we go any further, we have to acknowledge the fact that the Jeep name has been a staple in the off-road world for decades now. Years, and years of Jeep stories have been told over and over again to one, and all. The stories of how, “I climbed a 46 degree shear faced rock with my CJ.” Or stories of how the first mud bogging truck was a Jeep, and so on, and so on. We all love them, and some us out there hate them, and the rest just dream of a trail ready rig with the Jeep logo covered in mud, & grime. Those days are far from gone, and nor will they ever stop being produced by the thousands of Jeep owners, who would sell their mother-in-law’s soul to drive down a sweet trail. But there are a secret few who have found the Holy Grail” as far as SUV’s are concerned. The Jeep Cherokee SRT8 was a concept that was already familiar, but never perfected. For years guys would try to find ways to “Butch up” their family grocery getters. New rim, & tire packages, slight engine mods, and even body kits to make them look lower to the ground. All of these modifications were lost on the general public, until 2004. In 2004 Chrysler took it upon themselves to beg the question, “What would happen if we took our Hemi, dropped it in a Cherokee, threw on some bad ass 20” wheels, lowered it, and made it roar?”
The answer was brought forth the next year at the 2005 New York International Auto Show, held at Javits Center. This reveal would set the SUV world on it’s proverbial ear. The effort it took to make an SUV, of all things outrun most BMW’s of the current time was completely unfathomable. Since then, the Cherokee SRT8 has been gunning for all that dare to step into the ring with it. Mercedes Benz with their M Class, couldn’t hold a candle to the SRT8. The X5 was the next target for Chrysler’s SRT brand.      The guys over at BMW made a posh little SUV, but when Big Boys roll up, you have to know your role, and fall back. And Range Rover, they’re in a class all their own.  Snooty Gloria Beckham types that love all things Rover. Stop it, to tall, to boxy, and too damn expensive. I digress, and allow me to swerve away from any potential verbal bashing that may find its way onto this segment.
The 2013 Jeep Cherokee SRT8, will be addressed with some of the same treatments that have been enjoyed on this year’s model. Double stitched, heated leather seats, paddle shifters, 20” wheels, w/run flat tires, a brand new 7.3 speaker, over the top audio system, and let us not forget that awesome 6.4l Hemi V8 that’s cranking out close to 480hp. It’s safe to say that your plate will be full for quite some time with this monster. As an added feature Chrysler incorporated Daytime LED’s, and a newly developed selective Quadra-Trac system that not enhances how you tame the road, but also takes advantage of the dynamic Adaptive Damping System. So fear of curved roads will immediately disappear. The overall cost for this package of testosterone will run around $65,000. It sounds steep, but if you consider what you’re getting into, there will be NO Doubt that you’ve made an awesome choice, after you just sit back and enjoy the ride, while you smoke the X5 you just pulled up next to.  All you can hear is Vin Diesel’s voice saying, “Smoke ‘em.”  It’s Fast & Furious on a whole new level.

The Extra Mile: 2012 Hyundai Equus Signature - Sports - Daily Review

Base Price: $58,750
Price as tested: $59,650
This week we're driving Hyundai's luxury class effort, the 2012 Equus Signature. This is our second drive of an Equus, and I'll admit this car impresses me more and more every time I drive one. Hyundai continues to market Equus in a "rethink everything you know about luxury" wrapper, and the theory is starting to work.
However, as I mentioned in last year's column, changing a consumer's view of Hyundai from its core philosophy of "lower price" automobile to "luxury extraordinaire" is still a challenge.
Built in Ulsan, Korea, Equus indeed plays in the "quality and handling" ballpark of the competitors, including Lexus, Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti. I still feel, nevertheless, Hyundai needs to distance its Equus branding as far as possible from sibling Hyundai offerings, similar to what Acura (Honda), Lexus (Toyota) and Infiniti (Nissan) did with its marketing premise.
Granted, Hyundai is not yet ready to roll out a new dealer network based on....

Travis Pastrana and His Dodge Dart Get First Win - Top Speed

Travis Pastrana and His Dodge Dart Get First Win - Top Speed
Travis Pastrana and his 2013 Dart rally car have had a run of bad luck in this year’s Global RallyCross Championship, as a series of crashes have knocked him out of just about every race. Well, Travis’ run of bad luck appears to be coming to an end, as the Dart he pilots finally won a RallyCross race.
The win came on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway last weekend and it began nearly as well as it ended. Travis pulled in a 3rd place start, giving him an advantage over the majority of the field. He took advantage of his great positioning to overcome the two cars ahead of him and pull out the checkered flag in this heat.
Thanks to that win in his heat, Pastrana got a front-row seat to start the final race and managed to secure and keep hold of 1st place through the race. Needless to say, Travis has been rather disappointed with his results so far this year, as he was quoted saying “It’s been so long, I almost forgot what it’s like to win.”
Pastrana is definitely a TopSpeed favorite, thanks to his openness to hop in front of the camera and give us witty comments, awesome rally videos, or even challenge his own teammates, so to see him finally bring home a checkered flag is nice. Here’s to many more this year and we hope the worst is behind him.
Travis and his Dart tackle their next race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 28th and 29th.
You can check out the above video to see the summary of the entire event.

Dart brings 6,000 jobs, new vitality to Illinois town | The News Journal | delawareonline.com

Dart brings 6,000 jobs, new vitality to Illinois town | The News Journal | delawareonline.com

Chrysler Group LLC’s factory in Belvidere, Illinois, is bustling, shipping about 300 Dodge Darts a day. A mile east on U.S. Route 20, a new restaurant has added an assembly line of its own: one that makes steak sandwiches.
Business is looking up at Fiesta Market, a grocery that had struggled during the recession, said owner Mike Bolis. In May, he added an adjoining restaurant, Fiesta Tortillas, and he has hired 15 more people to make and sell fast-food items such as Mike’s Famous Steak Sandwich, a seven-ounce rib-eye served on a bun with lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions.
“Hopefully, the people from Chrysler will come visit us more often,” Bolis said in a telephone interview. “I do see more people from the plant coming in. I do have my regulars.” The restaurant also makes daily deliveries to the factory.
Chrysler, under the control of Italy’s Fiat SpA, has surged back to health since its 2009 bankruptcy and government bailout, and it’s bringing Belvidere along for the ride. The factory completes hiring for a third crew this month, which will bring it to 4,500 workers cranking out vehicles 120 hours a week. It employed as few as 200 people three years ago.
Chrysler’s investment will bring total employment by the automaker and its suppliers in the region to 6,000, according to the area’s economic development group.
President Barack Obama touts his administration’s rescue of the industry and factory towns such as Belvidere as a crowning achievement of his first term. He has used it to differentiate himself from Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who opposed government financing of the restructuring and criticized it as “crony capitalism” to help union allies.

'Extraordinary Measures'

“As much as people may have disdain for some of these bailouts in theory, the reality was the situation required extraordinary measures,” said Diane Swonk, chief economist of Mesirow Financial Inc. in Chicago, about 70 miles southeast of Belvidere. “It was the lesser of two evils, and it is now giving us some support for an economy that is still very damaged,” she said in a phone interview.Chrysler Group LLC CEO Sergio Marchionne And Illin

Fiat CEO says Chrysler may exceed $3 bln 2012 op pft | Reuters

Fiat CEO says Chrysler may exceed $3 bln 2012 op pft | Reuters

(Reuters) - Fiat-Chrysler chief executive Sergio Marchionne reiterated on Tuesday that Chrysler's operating profit in 2012 could exceed its $3 billion target, commenting on June numbers released earlier in the day.
"Chrysler sold 1.23 million cars in the first half, which is over half of our target," Marchionne said at a press conference. "The objective of $3 billion is close at hand. We could overshoot it."
If Chrysler decides it wants to make more than 2.8 million cars in the United States, it will need to seek more production capacity, he said, without specifying where. Fiat's plan is to use the excess capacity in its five Italian plants to build cars to export to the U.S. market.
If Fiat is unable to guarantee the necessary labour flexibility in its Italian plants to satisfy export demand, it will consider closing an Italian plant, he said.
Fiat moved to increase its hold on Chrysler earlier on Tuesday, announcing it exercised an option to buy around 3.3 percent more of U.S. peer Chrysler from the VEBA trust fund, boosting its stake to 61.8 percent.
Asked about the timing of buying up the rest of Chrysler to gain total ownership, Marchionne said he "sees no reason" not to continue gradually buying up the stake up to 2016, as stipulated with VEBA.
He also added, however, that waiting until 2016 may be "a bit too long," and that the acquisition of the remaining stake could be purchased with cash.

The new 2013 Ram 1500 Special Service HEMI pick-up truck is set to follow in the footsteps of the Dodge Police Pursuit Charger.

In other words Ram built and designed this new cop truck for police departments all over the country that need a law enforcement pick-up to catch the bad guys.

Recently we had the chance to test and preview the new Ram 1500 HEMI Cop Truck Chrysler's proving grounds in Michigan.

And since Chrysler shoehorned a massive 390 HP HEMI into the black and white 4X4 we naturally had to see how fast it would go from 0-60 MPH.

2013 Dodge Dart - Review

The new 2013 Dodge Dart gets the post-bankruptcy Chrysler back into the compact car game with a dose of rakish style and more than a little attitude. The Dart is not only visually distinct on the road, it's one of the roomiest cars in the compact sedan segment. It's not necessarily the best car in the class, but it will find many buyers who like its combination of style, features, and personalization--and it's light years better than the grim Dodge Caliber hatchback it replaces.
Unfortunately, the fuel economy of the two Dart versions that have been rated thus far is only about average for the compact class--one where the bar is being raised continuously, and where the Dart may need further tweaks to stay abreast of rising averages. The most economical version out now, using a 160-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged four paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, gets a combined EPA rating of 32 mpg. That's good, but we're curious how the version with a new, six-speed direct-shift automatic will be rated, since that's likely to be the version that more buyers go for.
The base 160-horsepower 2.0-liter four is cheaper, slower, and less economical, at an EPA combined mileage rating of 29 mpg. Again, that's with the six-speed manual; we don't yet know what rating the 2.0-liter automatic version will get. The base engine, however, is simply underpowered; it has far less torque than the smaller turbo. The Dart is a heavy car, and the base engine makes it feel significantly slower than competitors at the times when you most need acceleration.
We recommend opting for the 1.4-liter engine under pretty much any circumstance. You'll find it more rewarding to drive, though like most cars with six-speed transmissions, you'll have to keep the engine revs up to get that spritely performance, because the default engine speed is less than 2,000 rpm--for best fuel economy.
There's also a Dart Aero model coming later, with some design tweaks to reduce drag and give at least 41 mpg on the highway cycle, Dodge says.
If a Dodge Charger had a one-night stand with an old Plymouth Neon, the 2013 Dart might just be the result. It appears to have the old Neon's low cowl and wide stance, but at the rear it's all Charger--stubby trunk, raked rear window, and full-width LED taillights. The all-new interior features a flowing dashboard and console, with a very large 8.4-inch center touchscreen display on high-end models. There's also a smaller digital display between the two large instruments behind the steering wheel.
There's lots of room inside the 2013 Dart, and the front passengers sit higher than you might expect from its visual close-to-the-ground aspect. Handling is good though not spectacular, but performance junkies will be waiting for the upcoming 2.4-liter engine that'll appear in the Dart R/T model arriving later this year.
The base SE model starts at $16,790 including delivery, and the high-performance Dart R/T will start at $23,290. But among three engines, three different gearboxes, various trim levels, and a lengthy list of personalization options, the Dart can be ordered in more than 100,000 different combinations, and no two Darts may be identical--which Dodge says will help it appeal to young buyers who want their cars to be unique and different.
So Dodge is back with a viable competitor in the critical compact sedan category. We look forward to spending more time with the Dart, not only because it's rakish and distinctive, but because more competition can only be a good thing for all buyers.
